- Demonstrators headed for a police station in protest against the police, making a long line. On August 12, 3,500 people attended a rally for families of union members in Minamata 2nd Elementary School to show their solidarity. In contract, the police often intervened in the dispute and several members of Shin-Nihon Chisso Labor Union were arrested around the east gate when they tried to prevent members of the second union from going back to work. .
